my ideal day

Morning Riley!

Have you ever thought about what your ideal day looks like? If you had only 1 day left to live, how would you spend it? Or like that movie Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray lives the same day over and over. What would yours look like? Here’s mine:

5:30a – Wake up, drink water, brush my teeth, go downstairs and have a cup of coffee. Then spend about 45 minutes writing.

6:30a – Go back upstairs when you wake up, and hang out with you and mama for 20 minutes, then get everyone changed and ready for the day. I pretty much wear the same outfit everyday, so It’s easy. You’re more difficult, since you are so picky about what you wear. Yes, even as a baby.

7:00a – Have breakfast with you and mom. Usually something like vegan flaxseed waffles, some eggs, and more coffee.

8-11a – Hang out around the house, take some photos, and read some books (both to you, and to myself).

11a – 2p – Go out to lunch with you and mom. Usually somewhere like Pacific City or SoCo where we can eat, and then walk around. I’ll usually bring my camera along and try to get some interesting photos of you guys.

2p – 4p – We head home. I’ll do some more reading, and write another article in my blog while you nap. I take one too if I’m tired.

4p – Friends and family come over to hang out. Your grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles are all here. We have dinner at the house, and everyone has a good time.

9p – Everyone leaves, you’re asleep in bed and it’s just me and mama. We’ll try to watch movie on Amazon, maybe I’ll edit some photos or start uploading some posts to this website. Afterwards, we get ready for bed.

11p – In bed, pillow talk with mama about our day, and then falling asleep.

Well Riley, I guess I’m lucky, because that’s pretty much my every day. Yup, I get to spend every day of my life living my perfect day. I can’t ask for more.

Yes, I know I have to work. But I’m only at the office 4 days a week. So just take 9a – 7p and replace it with time at the office, but most of the day is still the same. On the Friday’s that I work from home, I can still have lunch with you guys. Plus, I enjoy my job, get to have fun with my team at work, and get to listen to interesting podcasts during my commute.

If you had asked my 20 year old self, my ideal day would probably be very different. It’d most likely involve some exotic location, expensive cars, and some crazy adventure. Well, I’ve come to realize that those things are cool too, but I probably wouldn’t want to spend every day of my life like that. And if I did, it would only be a small fraction of my life – so why bother trying to chase something like that? Isn’t it better to be present in our current lives, and make the daily things we do what we love? What I just described really is my ideal day, and I wouldn’t mind living that same day over and over for the rest of my life.

Love,
Dad

Mom and I are working on the house. She sucked me into helping her paint, and now we are going down the rabbit hole. That’s why there haven’t been any posts lately. Since my last post, we’ve: finished painting, framed and hung all the photos, painted the stairway railing, bought a new kitchen table and chairs, and replaced the carpet!
